Rumours are swirling that Sydney Sweeney will be cast as the next Bond girl in Denis Villeneuve’s 007 movie.
But we suggest taking the news with a pinch of salt because of one small detail, which we’ll come on to.
Not only is Sweeney in plenty of movies at the moment but she’s also a close friend of the recently announced latest Bond director.
The pair’s connection has sparked serious talk of her becoming the next Bond bombshell. if that will still be a thing.
The Euphoria and White Lotus actress, 27, is said to be at the top of the casting list for 007’s next outing — with Villeneuve reportedly keen to bring her on board. And with Amazon boss Jeff Bezos (who now holds creative control of the franchise) also in her corner, the stars may be aligning for Sweeney to step into the iconic role.
According to The Sun, a movie source said: “Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond. Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise.
“They’ve hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise. Plus Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of Bond girls.”

The problem for us is this news hinges on The Sun’s use of the words “a movie source” which is close as you can get to “we don’t have a source”. No name, not even an attempt at a job title.
Perhaps they are putting 2 and 2 together and making 5. Or maybe there is something in the clues.
Sweeney recently transformed her physique to play boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic, training daily with weights and kickboxing.
Last year, she was spotted deep in conversation with Villeneuve and No Time to Die star Ana de Armas at the Toronto Film Festival.
And more recently, she was a guest at Bezos’s lavish Venice wedding.
The clues are all there but they could add up to nothing.
As for who’s stepping into the tux, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Norton are still the frontrunners to replace Daniel Craig — but if Sweeney signs on, expect Bond’s next adventure to come with a bold, Gen Z twist.
