Back To The Future returns to cinemas + 40th anniversary special edition sets

Doc Brown has come back from the future with fancy new trilogy special edition set, as the franchise prepares to return to cinemas for the 40th anniversary.

From October 14, 2025, the studio is rolling out a Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Gift Set available exclusively at Amazon, a standard 40th Anniversary 4K trilogy set, and individual 4K UHD + Blu-ray Steelbooks for each film.

Two weeks later, on October 31, the original 1985 classic heads back to theatres for a limited run in premium formats, including Dolby Cinema, 4DX, and D-Box, so fans can experience Hill Valley’s biggest day the way it was always meant to be seen – larger than life and loud enough to rattle the clock tower.

Extras from licence plates to guitars

The centerpiece here is the Amazon-exclusive Gift Set, which doesn’t just repackage the trilogy in 4K; it dresses it up like a fan’s dream shelf piece.

Alongside the movies, the set includes a Flux Capacitor SteelBook, an OUTATIME metal plate ready for your display case, an exclusive Gibson mini-guitar replica, a Back to the Future: A Visual History booklet, and a stash of replica ephemera that taps straight into Universal’s archives.

If minimalism is more your thing, the standard 40th Anniversary 4K Trilogy keeps things clean and collectible, while the standalone Steelbooks for Back to the FuturePart II, and Part III give completists three very tidy excuses to rearrange their media shelves.

On the tech side, the trilogy lands in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, which means the DeLorean’s first thundering jump to 88 should look razor-sharp and sound like it’s tearing open your living room.

And there’s extra features in there, too

The discs arrive with a healthy mix of new and archival bonus features.

Fresh additions include 40 Years Later: Reflecting on the Future, with co-writer and producer Bob Gale taking stock of the franchise’s legacy; Back to Hill Valley, a location-hopping revisit with Gale and Donald Fullilove; and Untold Stories of Back to the Future, which surfaces new anecdotes from crew.

There’s also a TCM Classic Film Festival panel with Gale, cinematographer Dean Cundey, and stunt double Charlie Croughwell; and A Mystery in History, which dives into the saga of Marty’s now-legendary Gibson guitar and a fan-rallying search for the long-missing screen-used prop.

The legacy extras are abundant, spanning the comprehensive Tales from the Future documentary, deleted scenes, lost audition tapes, the DeLorean restoration doc, featurettes on the physics behind the fun, music videos, theme-park history, animated series episodes, and multiple commentaries from Zemeckis, Gale, and producer Neil Canton.

Wit and wonder on the biggest screens

It’s a fitting salute for a film that dominated the 1985 box office, earned multiple Oscar nominations, and still plays like a miracle of tone, character, and ingenuity.

Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown remain one of cinema’s great odd-couple duos, and Dean Cundey’s glossy, high-energy cinematography plus Alan Silvestri’s propulsive score make the franchise feel perpetually turbo-charged.

“Back to the Future is one of the most iconic films of the last half-century,” said Jim Orr, President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution for Universal Pictures.

“The film’s wit, wonder and wildly original storytelling continue to captivate audiences of all ages. This 40th anniversary celebration gives fans the chance to experience the film’s timeless magic on the biggest, most immersive screens available today.”
