It sounds easy. Which movie character would you choose to travel with? But it’s far harder than you might imagine.
The fantasy travel companion debate may sound like a silly pub game but quickly turns into something surprisingly revealing. The character you choose says a lot about you. Are you a safety-first traveller who wants someone capable and calm? Are you chasing laughs and stories? Do you want wisdom, or do you want someone who can handle themselves if things go sideways in a dark alley somewhere exotic?
The rules matter too. This isn’t about which actor you’d most like to share a flight with. It’s about the character – their world, their skills, their era. You’re not whisking them out of their film and dropping them into your life. You’re stepping into theirs. Suddenly the stakes are very different.
That brilliant survivalist who thrives in the jungle? Great – if you’re prepared to actually be in that jungle. The charming rogue with a heart of gold? Wonderful company, until you realise you’re now also his problem. Every choice comes with consequences, and that’s exactly what makes the debate so much fun.
It’s also what makes it so divisive. Ask ten people to name their ultimate movie travel companion and you’ll get ten completely different answers – and probably an argument. Some people go practical. Some go emotional. Some, frankly, go a bit unhinged.
Which is exactly the kind of energy that GB and AJ bring to the latest Fast Forward episode of the Rewind Classic Movies podcast. Five picks each, strict rules, and absolutely no agreement whatsoever. There are some inspired choices, some deeply questionable ones, and at least one number-one pick that nobody could have predicted – and that might just be one of the most unexpectedly wholesome moment in the show to date.
