We’ve finally done it. After two seasons of Rewind Classic Movies, GB and AJ sit down to talk about one of the most important films in cinema history: Star Wars.
But there’s a slight problem.
GB has seen it hundreds of times. AJ … hasn’t.
So what happens when a lifelong Star Wars fan sits down with someone who knows the cultural references but is still getting C-3PO mixed up with R2-D2?
Quite a lot, as it turns out.
We get into the characters, the casting, the incredible world-building, the visuals, the music and the sound design — and along the way uncover some of the stranger stories behind the film. From actors who could have played some of the most famous characters in cinema history, to the versions of Star Wars that have been changed, debated and fought over by fans for decades.
We also look at what makes the original film feel so convincing, why its production was quite as remarkable as it was, and what it’s like to experience Star Wars with relatively fresh eyes nearly 50 years after it first arrived.
And yes, GB gets nerdy.
There’s far too much to fit into one episode, so this is Part One of our two-part Star Wars conversation – making a total of three parts if you include last week’s Why We Love Star Wars episode with guests Jody and Rick Martin.
